“I was born from Eritrean parents in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Following my graduation from the medical school at the Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia, I continued my career path serving as a general medical practitioner in the remote border towns of Ethiopia taking care of refugees and native tribes inflicted with tropical disease burdens. It was fun and pretty challenging working with the different sets of cultures with various medical entities but I guess I can call it destiny, soon I moved to the educational line and became a lecturer and coordinated a biomedical and behavioral sciences in of the major medical institutions of the country.

I loved all the aspects of teaching then and I continued my educational advancement through the Master’s program in Pharmacology and Toxicology. The United States of America opened a new line of opportunity to expand the venue of my academic path and enabled me learn about the human brain and its deeper ramifications through the field of Psychiatry. I was named as one of the best Chief Residents in the department of Neurology and Psychiatry, St Louis University. Sleep became one of my major interests in the field especially with the enormous mentally ill patients presenting with the compliant. Sleep disruptions in elderly with Neurocognitive disorders was my initial area of research.

My review paper was published in the international journal of Alzheimer’s disease on Circadian rhythm disturbances. The physical aspects of sleep are poorly correlated in mental health. I joined the Washington University in St Louis multi-disciplinary sleep medicine unit through the accredited fellowship program of the department of Neurology to broaden my horizon in the field. I learnt how sleep disordered breathings/ sleep apneas/ or neurologic sleep disruptions/ Narcolepsy or Cataplexy/ could easily be missed in most mental health clinics. My board certification in both fields of sleep and psychiatry helps me fill in this gap while exhaling in the novel profession of Medicine. Now, I am the owner and director of Hakim LLC.

I have enjoyed all my responsibilities of directorship and attending the Neuro Psychiatric units of the Ozark Medical Center in West Plains, Missouri until my recent relocation here in Suwanee, GA. I am currently involved with Floyd Medical Center psychiatric and sleep medicine services in Rome GA. I also have quite an extensive experience in Telemedicine service to provide various consultation services to a various hospitals and outpatient clinics. I am passionate about my job and the beautiful family I am blessed with fathering also my four amazing children. ”
